Palestinian Ex-Prisoner Denounces Harsh Conditions in Israeli Jails, Compares to Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib

In an exclusive interview with Press TV’s Hidden Files program, former Palestinian prisoner Sheikh Talal Abdulrahman has shed light on the dire conditions endured by Palestinians in Israeli jails, likening the treatment to the notorious US-run prisons of Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib.

Abdulrahman, who spent 18 years in Israeli prisons, emphasized the escalating crackdown by the Israeli regime on Palestinians since the October 7 retaliatory attack on occupied territories. He highlighted that the number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails has surged to over 12,000, a significant increase from the previous 5,000, including women and children.

Detailing the hardships faced by Palestinian prisoners, Abdulrahman described the ordeal starting from the raid on their homes by Israeli troops. He recounted how families are terrorized, belongings stolen, and individuals assaulted during the raids, adding that the mistreatment continues during transportation for interrogation.

Abdulrahman condemned the use of systematic torture by the Israeli regime, including electrocution, denial of food and medical care, and sexual abuse, labeling it as a "weapon of war" to extract confessions.

Recalling his own experience, Abdulrahman revealed the extreme conditions endured during interrogation, including sleep and food deprivation, particularly egregious during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

He emphasized that the treatment endured by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails surpasses the brutality witnessed in US prisons like Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, highlighting the shared techniques of torture and humiliation employed by both regimes.
